Why I Started Content Creation During a Tough Economy

Why I Started Content Creation During a Tough Economy — And Why You Should Too

I usually don’t talk much about my finances.

Not because I’m hiding anything — but because like many people living in California, I’ve learned how quickly life can humble you.

This is one of the most opportunity-filled states in the country. But it’s also one of the most expensive places you can call home. And when life threw some unexpected challenges my way, I found myself in a position I never imagined…

Starting over.

I had to move back home and rebuild my life from the ground up. Pride takes a hit when that happens. You question yourself. You wonder how things unraveled so fast.

But tough seasons have a way of forcing clarity.

I realized something in that moment:

I never wanted my survival to depend on one paycheck again.

And that realization is exactly what pushed me into content creation.

Rock Bottom Can Become Your Launch Pad

When the economy tightens, everything feels uncertain. Prices go up. Stability goes down. Even people with “secure” careers start looking over their shoulder.

I didn’t want to live like that.

So instead of focusing on what I lost, I focused on what I could build.

I picked up a camera and started my YouTube channel, Backyard Off-Grid, where I show people how I survived starting over — and how living smarter can sometimes matter more than earning more.

Was I an expert YouTuber?

Not even close.

Did I have expensive equipment?

Nope.

What I did have was real-life experience… and a story that could help someone else feel less alone.

Here’s what many people don’t realize:

๐Ÿ‘‰ You don’t need to be famous to be valuable.
You just need to be real.

Job Security Is Mostly a Myth

For years, we were sold the idea that loyalty to a job equals safety.

But look around.

Companies downsize. Industries shift. Entire careers disappear almost overnight.

The truth is — relying on one income stream is one of the biggest financial risks you can take today.

Content creation changed how I see money.

Instead of putting all my trust in one source, I started building digital assets:

  • A YouTube channel

  • A growing platform

  • Evergreen content

  • A personal brand

Things no employer can suddenly take away.

Followers are the new form of job security.

And the beautiful part?

Once you build an audience, opportunities start finding you.

You Already Have What You Need to Start

People love to overcomplicate content creation.

They think they need perfect lighting, a professional studio, or thousands of dollars in gear.

I started with what I had.

Most successful creators do.

Your phone is more powerful than the cameras Hollywood used not that long ago. Let that sink in.

In a tough economy, low-risk opportunities matter — and content creation is about as low-risk as it gets.

No storefront.
No massive startup loan.
No inventory.

Just you… showing up.

Multiple Income Streams Create Real Freedom

One paycheck creates pressure.

Multiple income streams create breathing room.

As I got deeper into the creator world, I realized something powerful — creators aren’t just posting videos.

They’re building ecosystems.

Today, creators can earn through:

  • Ad revenue

  • Affiliate partnerships

  • Brand deals

  • Digital products

  • Courses

  • Communities

You don’t have to build all of this overnight.

But every piece you create becomes a brick in something bigger — a financial future that isn’t controlled by a single employer.

Especially in an unpredictable economy, that kind of leverage is priceless.

Tough Times Are Actually the Best Time to Start

This might sound backward, but economic uncertainty creates massive opportunity.

Why?

Because most people freeze.

They wait for the “right time.”
They tell themselves they’ll start when things feel safer.

Meanwhile, the people willing to begin — even imperfectly — gain experience, momentum, and visibility.

By the time the economy rebounds…

They aren’t beginners anymore.

They’re positioned.

Looking back, starting during a challenging season was one of the smartest moves I could have made.

Fear keeps many people on the sidelines.

Consistency quietly changes lives.

Your Story Is More Valuable Than You Think

One of the biggest mental hurdles is believing you have nothing special to share.

I used to think that too.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

People don’t connect with perfection.

They connect with authenticity.

Your struggles.
Your rebuild.
Your lessons.
Your resilience.

That’s the kind of content people remember.

You never know who needs to hear your story until you tell it.

You Don’t Need Millions of Followers

Let me say something that might relieve some pressure:

You don’t need to go viral to change your life.

You just need to be consistent.

One video.
One post.
One lesson at a time.

Small audiences grow.

But the only creators guaranteed to fail are the ones who never start — or the ones who quit too early.

The Biggest Risk Today Might Be Playing It Safe

If the past few years have taught me anything, it’s this:

Playing it safe is not always safe.

Depending entirely on one income source leaves you exposed.

But creating something of your own?

That builds leverage.

It builds optionality.

It builds confidence.

Starting a content platform didn’t just give me another way to earn — it gave me a sense of control during a time when life felt anything but controllable.

And that alone is worth more than most people realize.

Final Thoughts: Start Before You Feel Ready

If you’re waiting for perfect conditions, you might be waiting forever.

Start messy.
Start nervous.
Start with doubts.

Just don’t stay stuck.

Because in a tough economy, the people who create are the ones who put themselves in position not just to survive…

But to thrive.

And if someone like me can rebuild and start creating after life knocked me down a few times…

Trust me — you can too.

When my YouTube channel was at two thousand subscribers I was approved to be an Amazon Influencer. Affiliate marketing is tough, but it was another opportunity to make money from my content. Feel free to check it out

Living on a Budget in California: How I’m Building an Off-Grid Life, One Day at a Time

Living on a Budget in California: How I’m Building an Off-Grid Life, One Day at a Time

I usually don’t talk much about my finances or how I live—especially in what feels like the most expensive state in America. But California is my home, and despite the high cost of living, I still love the opportunities it offers.

That said, loving California doesn’t mean ignoring reality. The rent is high. Gas is expensive. Groceries aren’t getting cheaper. And after moving back home following a bad divorce, I had to make some serious life decisions.

That’s when I started my YouTube channel, Backyard Off-Grid.

Why I Chose an Off-Grid, Minimalist Lifestyle

Backyard Off-Grid isn’t just about survival—it’s about adaptation. I show people how I’m rebuilding my life by living smarter, not harder. One of the first steps I took was opening a high-yield savings account so I could finally put money away and let it grow, instead of watching it disappear into bills.

I also decided to live out of my Jeep and car camp while working on the road. It wasn’t an easy choice, but it made sense. Less rent. More flexibility. More freedom.

Car Camping, Gig Work, and Thinking Long-Term

To make it work, my goal is simple: earn $200 a day doing gig jobs like Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash. It’s not glamorous, but it’s doable—and it gives me control over my time.

At the same time, I’m documenting the journey. Since I’m also a landlord, I’ve started reviewing motels and hotels, with a long-term vision of maybe owning a hotel one day. Yes, it sounds expensive. And no, it doesn’t happen overnight.

But big dreams never do.

Budget Travel in California Is Possible

I’ve been doing the research, and even in this economy, affordable options still exist. For example, a motel like Hotel Elevation in South Lake Tahoe at around $70 a night actually makes sense when you’re strategic. That’s cheaper than rent—and it keeps me mobile.

This is all part of acting and thinking like a millionaire on a budget.

From Acting to Content Creation

I pursued acting once, and honestly, that skill still helps me today. Whether it’s adapting to gig work, creating content, or showing up confidently on camera, I use it all on YouTube, TikTok, and social media—for work and for fun.

If I need to become a certain version of myself to get the job done, I can do that.

Hope for Anyone Struggling Right Now

Do I think my YouTube channel could take off and make me a million dollars one day? Maybe. I can dream, right?

What I do know is this: It is still possible to live in America—even in California—if you’re willing to budget, adapt, and stay disciplined.

I’m sharing this not to flex, but to offer hope. If you’re starting over, downsizing, or just trying to survive right now—you’re not alone.

Stay strong.
We’ve got this. ๐Ÿ’ช

Yes I wrote this in the Motel don't judge me lol. Thanks Hotel Elevation for accommodating my stay. 3 nights $212.08 plus a $75 deposit. Budget was $300 win win ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Praying for more snow and business for this place. Start a high yield savings account with SoFi. Merry Christmas.

How to Make Money Online in 2025: The Ultimate Guide to Earning from Home

In today’s digital world, learning how to make money online has never been easier—or more rewarding. Whether you’re looking to supplement your income, build a side hustle, or create a full-time business, there are countless opportunities to earn money from home with nothing more than a laptop and internet connection.

This guide breaks down the top proven ways to make money online in 2025, along with tips to help you succeed.

1. Start a Blog or YouTube Channel

Creating content is one of the most effective ways to make money online. With a blog or YouTube channel, you can:

  • Monetize with Ads (Google AdSense or YouTube Partner Program)

  • Promote Affiliate Products for commissions

  • Sell Digital Products like eBooks, courses, or guides

๐Ÿ‘‰ Pro Tip: Pick a niche you’re passionate about, such as fitness, personal finance, or travel, and focus on creating high-value, SEO-optimized content.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular online business models. It’s simple:

  • You promote products or services

  • Someone buys through your referral link

  • You earn a commission

Top affiliate platforms include Amazon Associates, ClickBank, ShareASale, and Impact Radius.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Example: Write product reviews, tutorials, or “best of” lists that rank on Google.

3. Freelancing & Remote Work

Freelancing is perfect for those with skills in writing, design, programming, marketing, or customer support. Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer connect you with clients worldwide.

Hot freelance skills in 2025 include:

  • Copywriting & SEO content creation

  • Social media management

  • Graphic design & video editing

  • Web development

4. Selling Digital Products

Digital products are scalable and profitable because you create them once and sell them repeatedly. Examples include:

  • eBooks & guides

  • Online courses

  • Printables & templates

  • Stock photos, music, or designs

Platforms like Etsy (for digital printables), Teachable (for courses), and Gumroad make it simple to sell.

5. E-commerce & Dropshipping

Running an online store can generate serious income. With dropshipping, you don’t need inventory—you partner with suppliers who ship products directly to customers.

Top platforms:

  • Shopify

  • WooCommerce

  • Amazon FBA

๐Ÿ‘‰ Focus on trending products and effective digital marketing strategies to stand out.

6. Investing & Passive Income Streams

If you’re looking for long-term wealth building, consider digital investments such as:

  • Stocks & ETFs (through apps like Robinhood or Webull)

  • Crypto & NFTs (for higher risk/reward strategies)

  • Real Estate Crowdfunding (Fundrise, Roofstock)

Passive income opportunities like dividend stocks or rental income can provide consistent cash flow.

7. Online Coaching & Consulting

If you have expertise in a specific area—fitness, business, marketing, or personal development—you can monetize your knowledge through 1-on-1 coaching or group consulting.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Platforms like Zoom, Kajabi, or Podia make it easy to deliver services online.

Final Thoughts

The truth is, there’s no single “best” way to make money online—it depends on your skills, time, and goals. Start small, stay consistent, and focus on building multiple income streams for long-term success.

If you’re serious about financial freedom, now is the perfect time to take action. The opportunities are endless—you just need to start. How to Go Viral on YouTube in 2025: 10 Proven Strategies for Massive Views

If you’ve ever dreamed of hitting 1 million views (or more) on a single YouTube video, you’re not alone. YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world—and the biggest stage for creators to build audiences, income streams, and brands.

In 2025, going viral on YouTube isn’t just luck. It’s strategy, timing, and understanding exactly how the YouTube algorithm works.

Below are 10 proven tips that top creators like MrBeast, Ryan Trahan, and Airrack use to consistently rack up millions of views.

1. Nail the First 8 Seconds (YouTube Hook)

Primary keyword: YouTube hook, audience retention

The first 8 seconds can make or break your video. The algorithm rewards high audience retention, so grab attention instantly:

  • Use pattern interrupts: surprise, humor, or visual shock

  • Tell them exactly what’s coming

2. Ride Trending Topics

Primary keyword: trending YouTube topics 2025

Use YouTube’s Trending page, Google Trends, and VidIQ to spot what’s blowing up. Post fast to capitalize on momentum.

3. Create Click-Worthy Thumbnails

Primary keyword: YouTube thumbnail tips

Your thumbnail is the first impression.

  • Use bright, high-contrast colors

  • Big facial expressions

  • 3–4 words max in text

4. Keyword-Rich Titles

Primary keyword: SEO for YouTube, viral video titles

Example:
“My Day at the Beach”
“I Survived 24 Hours on a Deserted Island”

5. Focus on Watch Time

Primary keyword: YouTube watch time tips

Encourage viewers to watch more by making series content or teasing the next video.

6. Stay Consistent

Primary keyword: YouTube posting schedule

Consistency tells YouTube you’re a reliable creator—and trains your audience to expect new content.

7. Collaborate With Other Creators

Primary keyword: YouTube collab ideas

Even small creators can collab—trade shoutouts, make videos together, or join the same challenge.

8. Use YouTube Shorts for Growth

Primary keyword: YouTube Shorts viral tips

Post vertical, under-60-second videos daily to get discovered by viewers who’ve never seen your channel before.

9. Add Strong CTAs

Primary keyword: YouTube engagement tips

Tell viewers exactly what you want:

  • Like

  • Comment

  • Subscribe

  • Watch next

10. Study What’s Already Viral

Primary keyword: viral YouTube video examples

Analyze:

  • The hook

  • Pacing

  • Emotional trigger

Bonus: YouTube SEO Checklist

  1. Title: Use your main keyword naturally

  2. Description: 150+ words with related keywords

  3. Tags: Broad + niche

  4. Closed Captions: Full transcript

  5. Playlists: Keep people watching

Final Thoughts

Going viral on YouTube in 2025 is all about creating emotional, shareable content and optimizing for the YouTube algorithm. If you hook viewers, keep them watching, and make videos worth sharing, you’ll set yourself up for massive growth.

I currently run three YouTube channels. One of my Shorts went viral, and my main channel, Backyard Off-Grid, has received over 1 million visits. Now, I’ve set myself a 90-day challenge to grow my gaming channel, Backyard Games, to one million subscribers.

Don’t give up—success takes time, effort, and consistency. It’s a lot of work, but absolutely possible.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Even if you don’t go viral, being a YouTuber comes with real benefits. My YouTube channel Backyard Off-Grid helped me get accepted into the Amazon Influencer Program, where I earn a commission on purchases made through my Amazon Storefront: https://www.amazon.com/shop/backyardoff-grid.

I’m an actor, influencer, and content creator. My advice? Have fun, keep creating, and grow your channel step by step.

๐Ÿ‘ Like and share if you found this valuable!

Veteran Creator Life: How I Monetize Every Platform I Use

 By Jeffrey Barkey

Actor | Veteran | Creator | Roblox Developer / Author

๐Ÿง  From Combat Boots to Content Creation

After serving in the military, life didn’t just slow down — it hit me with a different kind of war: PTSD, financial instability, and a constant search for purpose.

But instead of letting that weigh me down, I adapted. I took my skills, grit, and story — and turned them into content across multiple platforms.

Today, I monetize my journey. Here's how I’m building income across YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Blogging, Amazon, and Roblox — as a disabled veteran creator.

๐ŸŽฅ 1. YouTube – Even Without 1,000 Subs

Even if you're not in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), you can still make money:

  • Affiliate links in descriptions

  • Driving traffic to Amazon Influencer storefront

  • Repurposing Shorts on TikTok and FB Reels

๐Ÿ”— Example: I post videos on acting, Jeep camper life, and game dev, then link to gear I use via Amazon.

Experiment with different channels. I have three. Jeffrey Barkey (39) for Acting. Backyard Off-Grid (2,485 subscribers) for camping, diy, product review and survival. Then Backyard games (69) for my Roblox Dev content. Don't give up! 3-5 videos a week.

๐Ÿ“ฑ 2. TikTok – High Engagement, Fast Traffic

TikTok is where I build trust fast. With 2,400+ followers, I:

  • Link to my blog or storefront via “link in bio”

  • Showcase Amazon products, Roblox games, or content behind-the-scenes

  • Reuse Shorts from YouTube and Facebook

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Use trending audio + text overlays. One viral TikTok can explode traffic to your blog/store.

๐Ÿงพ 3. Blogging with AdSense + Amazon = Passive Income

My blog jeffreybarkeyactor.blogspot.com is monetized with:

  • Google AdSense ads

  • Amazon Influencer links (earn a commission)

  • Product reviews and gear guides

✅ Example Posts:

  • How to Break Into The Acting Industry

  • Veteran Creator Setup Under $100

  • My PTSD-Friendly Daily Tech Setup

๐Ÿ“ˆ These posts bring recurring monthly income, especially if ranked on Google.

๐Ÿ›’ 4. Amazon Influencer Program – No Inventory Needed

As a creator, I don’t need to buy and resell — I just recommend products I already use.

๐Ÿ’ฐ I earn commission every time someone shops through my:

๐ŸŽฏ Categories I focus on:

  • Acting gear

  • Creator gadgets

  • Jeep camper life

  • Roblox dev tools

๐Ÿ•น 5. Roblox Game Development – Creative & Profitable

I develop games on Roblox — like Land Mine Obby, Lava Tower Obby — and monetize through:

  • In-game purchases

  • Game passes

  • Dev-ex (Robux → USD)

Even simple games can earn big if promoted well.

๐Ÿš— 6. Facebook Reels + Monetization

Facebook Reels are another income stream:

  • I repost Shorts + TikToks

  • Engage with veteran groups

  • Link to my blog or Amazon store

๐Ÿ“Œ Bonus: Facebook Content Monetization for all content(if eligible). Start receiving stars at 1000 followers.

๐Ÿ” How I Repurpose Content Across Platforms

One video = 5+ monetization opportunities:

PlatformPurpose
TikTok        Build trust, go viral
YouTube Shorts        Drive to blog/storefront
Facebook Reels        Earn bonuses, expand reach
Blog        Longform SEO income
Amazon                            Direct product sales
Roblox        Game monetization

๐Ÿ›  Tools I Use

Want to follow in my footsteps? Here’s my creator stack:

  • ๐Ÿ“ท Phone tripod (Learn More)

  • ๐ŸŽค USB mic for voiceovers

  • ๐Ÿ’ป Basic laptop for blogging + dev

  • ๐Ÿ“ฒ CapCut + Canva (free editing)

  • Beacons.ai = https://beacons.ai/jeffreyb

๐Ÿ’ก Final Thoughts: You Don’t Need a Team

I don’t have a team or big production. Just a story, a phone, and drive.

If you’re a veteran, artist, or just someone trying to break free — you can do this too. Start with what you have. Build as you go.

Your life is content. Monetize it.

What Aspiring Actors Can Learn from Sydney Sweeney’s Rise to Fame

What Aspiring Actors Can Learn from Sydney Sweeney’s Rise to Fame

What Aspiring Actors Can Learn from Sydney Sweeney’s Rise to Fame

Let’s talk about Sydney Sweeney. From “Euphoria” to “Anyone But You,” she’s more than just a trending name—she’s a masterclass in how to build a serious acting career in today’s hyper-competitive world.

1. She Didn’t Wait for Permission

Before Hollywood knew her name, Sydney submitted a full five-year business plan to her parents at 12 years old explaining why she should pursue acting. She didn’t wait for an agent to find her. She took action.

Takeaway: Don’t wait for opportunity—start creating your own content, building your network, and refining your craft today.

2. She Diversifies

Sydney doesn’t just act—she produces through her company Fifty-Fifty Films. She’s involved in brand deals, fashion, and storytelling. That’s smart business.

Takeaway: The modern actor is more than a performer—they’re a brand. Own it.

3. She’s Authentic (Even Online)

Whether she’s in full glam on the red carpet or wrenching on vintage cars in her garage, Sydney keeps it real. That kind of rawness makes her relatable—and it builds trust.

Takeaway: Don’t fake it online. Be the real you. Your authenticity is your greatest asset.

4. She’s Proof You Don’t Need to “Fit In”

Sydney’s not your typical Hollywood starlet. And that’s why people love her. She’s vulnerable. Quirky. Sometimes misunderstood. And she’s owning it.

Takeaway: Stop trying to be the next “someone else.” Be the first you.

Want to Be Next? Here’s Your Move

If you’re an aspiring actor reading this, take this moment seriously. Study people like Sydney—but then create your own path. Make short films, post monologues, build your online presence, and never stop improving.

Start a YouTube channel and start building your personal brand.
